When thousands of people around the world lace up their running shoes for a shared purpose, real change becomes possible.
.

In 2025, 10,192 participants from 35 countries joined the Best Water Run and covered more than 60,000 kilometers. Every kilometer was converted into impact: BWT donated over € 60,000 to the b.waterMISSION project of the AQUA PEARLS Foundation.

Thanks to this collective effort, nine new smart b.waterMISSION taps are now providing reliable access to clean drinking water in Karandi, Laikipia County, Kenya.

Clean Water for Karandi

Karandi is home to approximately 4,900 people. For many years, residents depended on water from the River Ng’arachi, a source increasingly contaminated by human activity and agricultural runoff. Fetching water often meant long walks and exposure to significant health risks.

Today, the situation has changed.

With the support of the Best Water Run community, nine b.waterMISSION taps have been installed in Karandi. These taps provide affordable, safe drinking water close to home – improving daily life, protecting health, and freeing up time for education and economic activities.

A Sustainable Model for Long-Term Impact

At the AQUA PEARLS Foundation, we are convinced that clean drinking water is a fundamental human right. Through b.waterMISSION, we work with trusted local partners to implement sustainable water supply systems designed for long-term success. Our b.waterMISSION taps are realized together with eWATER, our experienced partner operating in Kenya, Tanzania, and The Gambia.

Each b.waterMISSION tap is an intelligent water dispenser that technically monitors operation and usage. Residents pay a small, affordable fee for the water. Income is transparently tracked and used to finance ongoing maintenance and repairs – ensuring that the systems remain operational.

Local water committees are trained to manage administration and take responsibility for their taps. This community-based approach creates ownership and strengthens local capacity. Together with eWATER, we ensure that all installed taps are regularly monitored and maintained – a crucial factor in guaranteeing long-term functionality, which is often a challenge in many charitable water projects.

All installed taps can be viewed transparently on our online dashboard.
